Today, 460 EUFOR personnel representing 13 nations were awarded the European Union Common Security and Defence Policy Service Medal for Operation Althea during a medal parade at Camp Butmir.
The medal recognises personnel who have fulfilled the required period of qualifying service as members of the European Union’s military operation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. COM EUFOR, Major General Maurizio Fronda, together with senior EUFOR leadership and representatives of participating nations, presented medals to personnel from across the multinational force.
The ceremony provided an opportunity to recognise the service and contribution of the men and women who serve together within EUFOR Operation Althea. Their daily work, across a wide range of roles and responsibilities, contributes to the continued effectiveness and readiness of the mission.
EUFOR Operation Althea has operated in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 2004 under a mandate authorised by the United Nations Security Council. Today, personnel from 24 nations serve within the mission, working together in support of the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the maintenance of a safe and secure environment.
The medal parade reflects both the multinational character of EUFOR and the shared commitment of its contributing nations to the mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
