Brigadier General Lorenzo Dal Maso
was born in Bari, Italy on the 20th of May 1968. He attended the 169th course at the Italian Army Military Academy in Modena from 1987 to 1989. After being commissioned to 2nd Lieutenant, he completed his military education at the “Scuola di Applicazione” in Torino.
In January 1992, as a 1st Lieutenant, he was assigned to the 85th Infantry Regiment "Verona" in Montorio Veronese and served as recruits' Platoon Commander. In July 1992, he was assigned to the 66th Mechanized Infantry Battalion in Forlì, where he served as a Riflemen Platoon Commander. In 1993, he served as a Platoon Commander in the United Nations Operation in Somalia (UNOSOM - IBIS 2). Later on, he took up the appointment of Mortars Company Commander and, as Captain, was appointed as regiment S1 (Human Resources) Chief.
In 1998, he served in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina in the NATO Operation Constant Forge, as S3 (Operations) Staff Officer and S1 Chief. In 1999, he attended the 126th General Staff course at the War College in Civitavecchia. In 2000, as part of the NATO Operation Joint Guardian in Pristina, Kosovo, he served in KFOR Headquarters as the J4 Logistics Plans Staff Officer. In September 2000, he returned back in Forlì, where he was appointed to the Operational Land Forces Headquarters in Verona as a J1 Staff Officer.
After being promoted to Major in 2003, he attended the 6th Joint General Staff course at the Joint General Staff Superior Institute (ISSMI) in Rome. From November 2004 to September 2007, he was deployed as a Liaison Officer (LNO) with the German Defence General Staff in Berlin. After his return to Italy, he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and he served as a Staff Officer at the Deputy Chief of Defence Office in Rome. From October 2009 to October 2010, he led the 1st Battalion of the 66th Airmobile Infantry Regiment which took part in United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL – Leonte VII). After that, he was assigned to the General Staff where he served first as United Nations and Multinational Forces Section Chief at the 3rd Division – Military Policy and Plans and then, as the Studies and Personnel Documentation Section Chief, at the Deputy Chief of Defence Office.
From December 2013 to September 2015, he commanded the 66th Airmobile Infantry Regiment. From December 2015 to September 2016, he served as Joint Operations Centre Chief at the UNIFIL Headquarters in Naqoura, Lebanon. In July 2017, he was promoted to Brigadier General and in September 2017 he was appointed as Deputy Chief of Staff Operations at the Operational Land Forces Command and Army Operational Command in Rome.
From September 2019 to September 2022 he was appointed as Defence Attaché to the Italian Embassy in Berlin. After returning to Italy, he took up the position of Deputy Chief of Staff Support at the Command for Training, Specialization and Doctrine of the Italian Army Headquarters.
He speaks English and German and holds an MA degree in Computer Sciences and another in Strategic Science, in addition to his two 2nd level Masters degree (one in Strategic Sciences and one in Strategic – Military International Studies). He has conducted a variety of training and professional courses in Italy and abroad.
He is married with Cinzia and has two daughters, Alessia and Elisa. Brigadier General Dal Maso enjoys sports, particularly basketball and, in his free time, he likes hiking with his three dogs.
